Atlanticwakame / Alaria Esculenta

Alaria Esculenta ( Latin for wings ) or Atlantic Wakame Is dark brown to dark green in colour . It is found on the exposed shores of Ireland and only on extreme lows. It prefers freezing waters and rocky substrates so our rugged and wave smashed coastline are perfect conditions for it. Harvested in late spring to early summer it arrives as the perfect treat with its great source of vitamins and minerals; it is high in calcium, magnesium and potassium (even rivalling the leafy green super foods such as kale and spinach), which makes it a great brain food so it’s a good addition to add to smoothies or at breakfast time. It’s high in Fibre therefore easy to digest and it has a sweet and accessible flavour, so it’s great for use in soups, sauces and salads. B12 is often found in higher quantities in fish and meant, so Alaria is a great substitute for vegan or vegetarian diets.
