Bladderwrack/Fucuc Vesiculosis

Fucus Vesiculosis or Bladderwrack records the level of the low tide as it is a seaweed that is covered by water for half the tidal cycle. It is high in iodine, and can be used to stimulate the thyroid so is helpful incorporated as part of a healthy lifestyle. It is also high in vitamin A which is important particularly for maintaining healthy vision and ensuring the normal function of your immune system. A comparison of extracts from Fucus vesiculosis has shown generally greater antioxidant activity, meaning it fights free radicals , in this seaweed, than in a number of commercially available supplements… which would mean it to have anti -cancer /tumour properties. It is also the strongest glucose inhibitor making it a great choice for people with diabetes.

Fucus Vesiculosis, goes well in fish and seafood dishes (grounded or sprinkled ), can be used in baking , sprinkled on salads and soups, It is a lovely addition to a condiment as it’s a good flavour enhancer and it makes a great stock too.
